Measuring up

This morning I have four attitudes and five behaviors that George Gallop uses in his book ”Growing an engaged Church”. These nine things are measures of spiritual health. They are worth looking into. Give these each a rank on a scale of one to five and you will get a pretty accurate picture of your spiritual commitment level.

1. My faith is involved in every area of my life. ( Spiritually committed people do not compartmentalize their faith or their lives. The tapestry of their lives is woven together without seams. Faith is the common thread. )

2. Because of my faith, I have meaning and purpose in my life.

3. My faith gives me an inner peace. ( Adversity is faced in a calm and steady manner )

4. I am a person who is spiritually committed. ( You know if you are )

5. I spend time in worship or prayer every day. ( The daily routine of prayer and worship is a vital part of our lives )

6. Because of my faith, I have forgiven people who have hurt me deeply.
( Forgiveness is at the very heart of the ministry of Jesus Christ and is an essential requirement. )

7. My faith has called me to develop my given strengths. ( We have these strengths for a reason and are expected to use them wisely. )

8. I will take unpopular stands to defend my faith. ( This is one that we don’t know for sure until we are in the position to need to do it. It can be difficult to do the right thing when everyone around seems to be taking the easy way out.

9. I speak words of kindness to those in need of encouragement. ( There is a shortage of words of kindness in the world today and you will stand out if you are strong in this area. )

Give these each a value and see how you measure up in the area of spiritual commitment
