Re-Up for the New Year

This is the last day of 2007. For this morning's blog I have decided to give you a few points from yesterday's sermon regarding recommitment at the new year. We plan to be celebrating the arrival of the new year tonight with a worship service filled with music, testimonies, prayer and communion. We will follow that with a time of fun, games and food. New Year's Eve is one of those wonderful transition days that gives us a clean slate to start the new year. We pray that your new year will be blessed with good decisions and many new friends.

A new year is a good time for re-enlistment in our walk with God. Defining moments like this are times for evaluation. A time to look at why we enlisted in the first place and to look at the present situation. There are several reasons to re-commit to God. Actually the Apostle Paul wrote about dying to Christ on a daily basis. I will start the list in this column with three reasons:

God’s army needs experienced soldiers. There are battles that must be fought that need fighters that have been through the fire and storms before and have seen the hand of God at work in their lives.

Experienced soldiers encourage new soldiers
Experienced soldiers know where the traps are
Experienced soldiers have made the decision to commit

We need a spiritual connection. There is that void in each man that can only be filled by God. A God shaped hole in our heart. Freshening up the connection increases our efficiency and understanding that God is really there and will not leave or forsake us.

Establishing the connection is crucial to getting the message through
Enhancing the connection cleans up the garbage and noise
Enabling the connection turns it on

Satan needs to have God’s force depleted. God’s relationship with man has been the thorn in Satan’s side throughout time. He trembles when God’s people pray and rededicate their lives to God. A re-enlistment pulls the rug from the enemy handing him a defeat.

We must leave the enemy with nothing to hold onto

James 4:7 “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you.”

The only right way to resist the devil is to commit to God.

“Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! Your enemies cringe before your mighty power. Everything on earth will worship you; they will sing your praises, shouting your name in glorious songs." Come and see what our God has done, what awesome miracles he does for his people!”
Psalms 66:3-5

Happy New Year !!
