Wear the Word

For many years I have kept to a schedule of reading through the Bible every year. I have considered starting in the New Testament but this year I am starting once again in the book of Genesis and will read cover to cover. The earlier books of the Old Testament become easier to understand when seen in the context of the whole of scripture. I am always amazed at the continuity of the Bible and the thread of God’s plan that is in every book. In Deuteronomy chapter 6 , we find a key paragraph that gives instruction on the importance of keeping close to the Law of God.

“And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands I am giving you today.
Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are away on a journey, when you are lying down and when you are getting up again. Tie them to your hands as a reminder, and wear them on your forehead.
Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

I wonder how well I am doing with this mandate. It really is not put forward as one of the options but rather it is an imperative. Apparently if we want real success in our lives we have a formula here. With the new slate of the new year, it is time for a fresh commitment to God’s Word. Whether it is in your brief case, on your IPOD, through your cell phone or next to your recliner, keep ingesting the Word of God. Daily asking God for insight will provide you with wisdom that you will get no other way.
