Last year on Valentine's Day I used the following quote from the 1300's:
The first recorded association of Valentine's Day with romantic love is in Parlement of Foules (1382) by Geoffrey Chaucer:
"For this was on seynt Volantynys day
Whan euery bryd comyth there to chese [chose] his make [mate]."
Apparently we have been celebrating Valentines day for over 600 years. I think it is good to stop once in awhile and express appreciation to each other. Kind of a mutual admiration society event. We really do need each other to get the task done today. John Wooden, previous coach of the UCLA Bruins, once said, “The main ingredient of stardom is the rest of the team.” Partners can take on daunting tasks and not stop until the job is done. I had dinner recently with a friend who drives a semi for a living. He drives with a partner and the truck is rolling 24 hours a day. He gets to the west coast in one day. I’m glad God did not call me to that kind of work, but I sure am glad someone does it because the shelves stay stocked at the market. Here is a poem by an unknown author:
Father, Where shall I work today?
And my love flowed warm and free
He poured out a tiny spot and said,
“Tend that place for me”
I answered him quickly, “Oh no!”
Not that! Why, no one would ever see.
No matter how well my work was done;
Not that little place for me!”
The word he spoke then wasn’t stern;
He answered me tenderly
“Nazareth was a little place,
And so was Galilee”
