Forever Settled

"Forever O Lord, Thy Word is settled in heaven"
- Psalms 119:89

In the original story of “Lil” Abner , Mammy Yokum would bring an abrupt end to an argument with the statement,”I Has Spoke!” It always amazed me that this tiny woman could have the final word with such a short declaration. In the fictional world of Dogpatch, Arkansas, she had earned the right to make the final word.

I find declarations interesting . The Declaration of Independence is a document signed by our founding fathers that makes a statement of creed for our nation. When going through customs we are asked if we have anything to declare. The dictionary says that to declare we proclaim, make clear or state publicly. It is a solemn statement.

I think I am making declarations everyday. Our lives declare who we really are. The old saying is that who we are is speaking so loudly that they cannot hear what we are saying. I might as well be wearing a sandwich board while walking down the street because I am not good at fooling anybody. Actually in the spirit of honesty and integrity I have no business trying to fool anybody anyway.

The heavens declare the glory of God. I declare today that I have decided to serve Christ with all my heart, soul, mind and strength.
