Spectator or Participator ?

We’ve all heard the question, “if a tree falls in the middle of the desert and there is no one to hear it, is there any sound?” It is a good philosophical question since there is no way to prove it. Our life experience says that there is sound. Scientific facts tell us there would be sound yet sound, if we define sound as something heard, doesn’t exist at that moment.

“Life is empty until you join in”
- Leonard Sweet

Authentic experiences insist that we join in. An experience is compelling because it captures us and says “jump in”. In his book, “The Gospel according to Starbucks”, Leonard Sweet explains that a cup of coffee isn’t experienced and enjoyed until you participate with it. The logical progression of thought here is that the same is true of prayer and worship. Learning about them is one thing. Unless we do them, the words are of no value to us. They make the relationship real. It seems to me that reality in our relationship is at the heart of what God wants for us. That beats “religion” every time.
Today, I get to decide which experiences I am going to participate in and which ones I will be a spectator of. My participant things will be of more value to me.

By the way, are you sure the refrigerator light goes out when you shut the door?
