In the Assemblies of God we have what are called the four pillars of missions strategy. These pillars are holding up the ministry efforts and how well we maintain this foundation will determine our longevity as an effective force within the Kingdom of God. Any organization that expects to accomplish its mission needs to inventory the foundation pillars from time to time. Foundation specialists can review those pillars to be sure they are not being degraded by erosion or other forces. When I look at these four pillars, I am convinced that they need to be part of my spiritual DNA.
1. Reaching – taking all means that we have to move into our culture with the message of hope.
2. Training – life long learning is essential because the culture is constantly changing. The training of those we are reaching out to will equip them to reach more. It supports the first pillar of reaching.
3. Planting – seeking out and establishing self-propagating churches that can do the reaching and training from their vantage point. They will be able to reach and train those I cannot get to.
4. Touching – The Bible is clear that we are to be followers of the example set for us by Jesus in the area of service. All of our reaching, training and planting is for the purpose of opening the door of touching our world. All of our efforts are in vain if we fail to put this touch pillar in place. This pillar puts the demonstration of the love of Christ into action.
Let us keep our foundation intact and strong.
