Diplomatic styles

I have been studying one of the favorite characters of many Bible students this week, Daniel. As part of a leadership course I am completing, I am looking at the leadership traits of young Daniel as he was taken into captivity and maintained his resolve not to defile himself with the food and wine of his captors. His diplomacy methods gave him favor enough to agree to Daniel's requests. It opened the door for success in the whole situation which was an assignment from God for Daniel and his friends. I see a calmness in Daniel that comes from a close relationship with and security in God. This diplomacy worked because it started with relationship building. Daniel was able to make his stand and maintain his integrity.

"diplomacy, graciousness, and kindness demonstrated by efficient workers who are commited to the long term best interest of their supervisors."

It brings to mind the responsibility we have to support those who have been appointed over us. We can either battle them or we can find a way to see things from their perspective. Employment is a privilege to be taken humbly and faithfully. Doing an honest days work for a day's pay is a biblical principle. Every day I meet people who fail to appreciate their supervisors. As in all leadership, our attitude will determine our altitude. If you are having trouble getting off the ground, try developing relationships in a diplomatic, gracious and kind manner. It works.
