Our limited spectrum

We have all read the definition of faith found in the book of Hebrews chapter 11.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen”

I was reading Bill Johnson’s take on that this morning in his book, “When Heaven invades Earth”. Here is how he interprets that verse:

“Faith is the mirror of the heart that reflects the realities of the unseen world-the actual substance of His kingdom. Through the power of faith we are able to pull the reality of His world into this one. That is the function of faith.”

Faith is part of the unseen realm. We need to be reminded that what we see is just a small segment of all that is real. I have often used the example of spectrums. The colors we see and recognize are just a small sample of all the colors God created. The same goes for sounds, smells and feelings. If we base our situation only on what we see, there is not much hope. But if we have a faith base that includes a BIG God, we have an abundance of hope. Stepping out in faith gives God the opportunity to show us new perspective.

Try it out. You’ll be amazed.

“Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” ( Romans 10:17 )
