A party of thousands

“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”
Ephesians 1:7

From my sermon last Sunday:

Don’t settle for Good because better is available.
Move from good to great and move others the same direction.

This past weekend we had had a few guests in town for a bike ride. In fact it was about 20,000 guests who came to spend the night in our community. They are riding across Iowa this week in the Great bicycle ride. Unless you left town for the weekend, which a few did because crowds are not their thing, you were directly affected by this mobile city of thousands. Each of these people had a story. I wish I could have heard them all. We made new friends and renewed old acquaintances. We heard stories of hills, headwinds, and happenings on the road. Being the first stop of the ride, it was evident which ones had trained and which ones were suffering with the sore muscles of taking on too much, too quickly.

Our guest speaker for the Sunday night service, District Superintendent, Tom Jacobs, who is riding the route, gave us some lessons of the road. Here are a couple of the greatest lessons:

Travel light
Know where you are headed.

As they all rode out of town yesterday morning headed to the next stop 83 miles away, I felt like I had some new friends and some new insights on life.
