A Healthy Thirst

I am flying pretty high today after a great day of services yesterday in our Missions Convention. It is my favorite weekend of the year as we listen to people who are passionate about their call. It makes me more passionate about my call. What a blessing to be asked by God to collaborate and work for the Kingdom. The disciples abandoned their previous lives on the hope that Jesus had the answer to their deepest need. He did not let them down. As I study the Scriptures I see a thirst in the disciples for something greater than they had known. Their decision to follow Christ was abrubt and complete even unto a willingness to ultimately die for what He had given them. I was reading in my devotional time this morning that God promises to bless us with and satisfy the thirst that comes with serving Him. David called it the kind of thirst that a deer has panting for the water or the parched land that needs God's rain. I am going after God today with a thirsty heart because that will protect me from "unhealthy" thists that are always too available. I am convinced that God's agenda needs to drive my life.

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
