Helping the needy

The art of successfully helping needy people is something that every person should be developing. The ability to help without enabling will help the neediness to diminish. I have found that some people can make amazing progress with helps in small adjustments. The bottom line is caring and compassion. Without that, we spin our wheels and only offer surface help when the need goes deep. Moving onto a true "help" mode from the "rescue" mode usually involves outside sources. Although I like to be "all things" to "all people" that usually is not an efficient position. There are those who are gifted to help and need to be given the opportunity. I have also learned that I must be very careful about judging people as to whether their walk is matching their talk. Listening to someone's "Story" can give insight as to why their walk may be distorted. There is a time to draw the line, but if I get too skeptical, I will draw it too early. There are boundries that need to be in place, however, because I can find myself in over my head if I try to do it all myself. I have found to best advice is to listen for the leading of God and not get in His way.

I am thinking this morning about the old Dottie Rambo hymn:

"He looked beyond my fault and saw my need"

Amazing grace will always be my song of praise
For it was grace that brought me liberty.
I can not know just why He came to love me so;
He looked beyond my faults and saw my needs.

I shall forever lift mine eyes to Calvary
To view the cross where Jesus died for me.
How marvelous that grace that caught my falling soul;
He looked beyond my faults and saw my needs.

I shall forever lift mine eyes to Calvary
To view the cross where Jesus died for me.
How marvelous that grace that caught my falling soul;
He looked beyond my faults and saw my needs.

He looked beyond my faults and saw my needs.
