I am in the midst of a study of "Endurance". Holding on, no matter what, is required if we are going to reach our goals. C.S.Lewis once wrote,
“Faith is the art of holding on to things your reason has once accepted in spite of your changing moods"
The Psalmist in Chapter 57 was in a spot. David’s options were gone. He had ducked into a cave. He was not in a place he wanted to be. But, He penned these words,” Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.”
In God’s circle of care, when we are forced to accept uncomfortable situations (like war),
perspective is crucial. You see the situation as either a trap or as an opportunity for God to demonstrate His power and deliverance. The real question is , What are we going to do until the negative situation has passed? David chose the shadow of God’s wings. He realized that his well being rested in invisible rather than visible realities. When David used the words, “Until the disaster has passed” ,he spoke of the unknown duration of the difficulty. The promise of God is that our problems are temporary. God walks with us, even carries us if necessary.
As our nation is in the midst of a war of unknown duration, we pray for wisdom for our leaders, among them are the brave soldiers making ultimate sacrifices. I am thankful for the hand of God that moves correctly every time.
Trust God. He is worthy!
"Courage is Fear holding on a minute longer"
