The DIscipleship community

Another quote from Dr. Wes Stafford:

“The word community is more than just a gray sociological descriptor. It is a God term, designed by the creator of children to water their souls and enhance their spirits as they grow. To ignore this is to sow seeds of dysfunction and future trauma. To welcome the young into the center of our lives is to enrich not only them but ourselves as well.”

I visited last night with a person who needed community. He feels lonely and I believe he represents many in our society who are needing to be part of something bigger. When I counsel people on goal setting, I emphasize becoming part of something bigger than themselves. Have some goals that can only be accomplished if God steps in and does a miracle. That way we will not be able to brag that we did it all. Some of our goals also must be only possible when we network with several others. The old saying that "Many hands make light work", really is true and it is fun to work a project in the midst of many and see the strength of the multi-stranded cord.

Since I am in a mode of learning about discipleship, I am connecting thoughts like this to the realm of becoming who I need to be in Christ. I really need the community of faith to keep me charged up. I am blessed with friends like my new acquaintance last night who help me to have the compassion to “be there” with God.
