Sermon notes from "I'm In" sermon yesterday. This is part of our 2010 "IDENTITY" series. God works from the inside out.
Acts 17:28-29. 'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.' "Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone an image made by man's design and skill."
From the ESV Study Bible:
"Acts teaches that the new community is rooted in old promises. It does this by telling how God directed the inclusion of Gentiles and took the message from Jerusalem to Rome. The gospel can go to all the world because (1) Jesus is Lord and (2) God directed that the gospel go into all the world. The book ends on a note of triumph as the gospel comes to Rome, even though believers suffered in terms of injustice and physical persecution in an effort to get the gospel there."
God created us with an innate desire to know and love him. While this desire will last eternally, trauma can shock it into temporary dormancy.
Hebrew verb "YHVH" meaning “to be.”
Jehovah-Jireh means "the Lord who sees and provides."
Jehovah-Nisi means “the Lord is my miracle,” or “the Lord is my banner."
Jehovah-Tsidkenu means "the Lord who is our righteousness."
Jehovah-Shalom refers to "the Lord of peace.”
Jehovah-Rapha means “the Lord who heals you."
1. God heals because he is The Healer
2. God heals in response to his promises.
3. God heals when you demonstrate faith
4. God heals to encourage people to come to Him. (Psalm 103:2-4).
He heals broken hearts; he repairs wounds.
We must strive to comprehend the depths of God’s unconditional love.
We were created with an innate desire to know and love Him.
As God works us through things He works from the inside out.

Inside Information
My sermon series for 2010 is about "Identity"
Below are some thoughts from last Sunday's notes regarding "Inside Information":
Insiders of the Kingdom
It is an awesome fact that as a citizen of God’s kingdom, you are already uniquely positioned to live out your kingdom citizenship among the people you relate to every day. God has called you to be an "insider" to see your family, neighborhood, and workplace through kingdom eyes. It is time to form new kingdom lifestyle patterns Evangelism is not just for the gifted few—it’s for all of us. We need to daily connect with the eternal purposes of God.
Certain messages are appropriate for those who are inside the faith, but make no sense to those outside the faith.
Through relationship, God entrusts His secrets to us. We are insiders in the Kingdom.
Mark Chapter 4: 1-20
Mark 4:1-20 Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water's edge. 2 He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said: 3 "Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times." 9 Then Jesus said, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." 10 When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. 11 He told them, "The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables 12 so that, "'they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!'" 13 Then Jesus said to them, "Don't you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14 The farmer sows the word. 15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop-- thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown."
There are things that Only God knows and does not share
There are things that you know because of who you are
There are things you are expected to learn because if your position
There are things that are available for you to learn if you wantAbraham in Gen. 12
The Kingdom mentality changes our definition of normal.

God knows your name
Every once in awhile I meet someone who has mastered the art of remembering names. It never fails to cause me to take notice if someone that I don’t know very well calls me by name. There is an amazing power in the use of a name. Many would be hard pressed to come up with the names of the neighbors around them or people that work with them on a regular basis. It is a shame that we do not go out of the way to introduce ourselves to new people in the workplace, church or community. The disciple of learning names will pay life-long benefits to the one who takes the time to do it. I pastor a church where I pretty much know the name of everyone who comes to the services. There are times, however, that I see someone who has attended for awhile and even though I have met them, I do not have a handle on their name. It bothers me to have to ask their name again because it tells them I was not listening or paying attention the last time I asked them. Kindergarten teacher Debbie Andersen wrote a book entitled, “God knows my name”. Here is a description of that book:
“It seems almost unimaginable that the God who created the universe and all that is in it would know each and every one of our names! But the Bible says that it is so. Scripture also tells us that He knows the number of hairs on our heads, that we cannot hide from Him, and that He hears our thoughts. In fact, God's Word abounds with references about His tender care for all His creatures, both great and small.”Since we are created in the image of God, it makes sense to think that we do have ability to learn the art of remembering names.
My self-imposed assignment today is to learn the names of several people that I see on a regular basis but do not know who they are. Maybe we should all wear name tags for a few days.
