In human personality books you will find the interpersonal awareness concept called the Johari Window. It is a window with four quadrants that each describe something about the way you are made up. First there is the “Arena” quadrant. These are things that you know about you and others know about you. This is the public part of you. The next window pane is the “Blind-spot” quadrant. This is the things that others know about you, but you do not know. Be thankful that you have friends in your life to confront you about these things. Blind spots can be deadly. The third area is the “Facade” area. It consists of things you know about you, but others do not know. It is in this area that we hide who we really are. This is a troubling area because we have the tendency to live in fear that someone might find out who we really are. The fourth area is the “Unknown” quadrant. Those things that you don’t know about you and that others don’t know about you. It is in this area that we learn to trust the Holy Spirit because God knows these things. If you want to get to know yourself, you must get to know God. I need to decide how much self disclosure I am going to do, and how to react and give feedback to others when I see things in them. Both decisions will have a huge impact on those around me. I think I will keep the fruit of the Spirit close:
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control….”

A Physics lesson
I shared a story in my sermon yesterday that illustrates the concept of understanding the reactions of those around us.
“A passenger in a taxi tapped the driver on the shoulder to ask him a question. The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove over the curb, and stopped just inches from a large plate glass window.
For a few moments everything was silent in the cab, then the driver said, “Don’t ever do that again. You scared the daylights out of me.” The passenger, who was also frightened, apologized. He said, “I did not realize that a tap on the shoulder would frighten you so much." The driver replied, “I’m sorry, it’s not your fault. Today is my first day driving a cab. For the last 25 years I drove a hearse.”
In the course of the day today we will have opportunity to experience reactions and to react ourselves. Part of the discipline thing in my life is to react positively whenever possible. Hopefully it is more of a pro-act which would indicate an awareness level that would keep me from being caught off guard. No matter how hard I try to avoid them, I still find reactions happening everyday of my life. I remember from physics class that every action has a equal and opposite reaction. Here is a great prayer for the morning:
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”
Psalm 19:14
